What the data contains

The Federal Register is the daily journal of the U.S. government: every federal agency rule, proposed rule and notice is published there. This source follows the rules and proposed rules only, the documents that create or change federal regulations, through the public FederalRegister.gov REST API, which needs no key or registration. Each run reads the 20 newest rules and proposed rules and turns each into one record keyed by its Federal Register document number, so a monitor reports new documents and any later edits to their titles, abstracts or links. FederalRegister.gov notes that its web edition is not the official legal edition; the official edition is the PDF published on govinfo.gov, which each record links to as pdf_url. Notices, presidential documents and public inspection filings are not included.

Fields and types

Every record has these fields. The key field document_number identifies a record across runs, so changes are reported field by field.

abstractThe FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2026-12-09, which applies to all Airbus Helicopters Model AS350B, AS350BA, AS350B1, and AS350D helicopters. AD 2026-12-09 requires revising the airworthiness limitations section (ALS) of the existing maintenance manual (MM) or instructions for continued airworthiness (ICA) and the existing approved maintenance or inspection program, as applicable. Since the FAA issued AD 2026-12-09, a determination was made that new and more restrictive airworthiness limitations and maintenance tasks are necessary. This proposed AD would require incorporating these airworthiness limitations into the ALS of the existing MM or ICA and the existing approved maintenance or inspection program, as applicable. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2025-13-08, which applies to all DG Aviation GmbH Model DG-1000T gliders. AD 2025-13-08 requires revising the glider flight manual and installing "Motor INOP" placards to prohibit operation with the powerplant. Since issuance of AD 2025-13-08, a design improvement to the propeller adapter ring has been developed that is considered terminating action for the operational prohibition of AD 2025-13-08. This proposed AD would retain the requirement to revise the flight manual, would provide an optional terminating action for the retained actions by incorporating a specified modification, would allow removal of the "Motor INOP" placards following accomplishment of that optional terminating action, and would require removal, inspection, and reinstallation of the propeller adapter disk, including installation of safety pins. This proposed AD would also prohibit the installation of affected propeller adapter rings. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.FAA proposes to amend its commercial space launch and reentry licensing regulations to streamline the licensing process and reduce regulatory burden for license applicants. Specifically, FAA proposes to amend the regulations to state that a far-field overpressure blast effects analysis required for license applicants does not need to account for members of the public in hypothetical locations.FAA proposes to amend its commercial space launch and reentry licensing regulations to streamline the licensing process and reduce regulatory burden for license applicants. Specifically, FAA proposes to add an exception for compliance with lightning hazard mitigation requirements for certain licensed launch and reentry operations.FAA proposes to amend its commercial space launch and reentry licensing regulations to streamline the licensing process. Specifically, FAA proposes to alleviate regulatory burden for license applicants by consolidating information required for an operator's flight safety analysis.

Evidence behind every value

  • Each run keeps the publisher's exact response, hashed with SHA-256. This sample came from a response with hash d1a8b74a67a21d2acb1df86aa962e24497cb16e5f18c1505949b01c74a0a2505.
  • Every value records where it came from in that response: a JSON Pointer into the retained capture.
  • Each run gets a signed manifest (Ed25519) timestamped by an RFC 3161 authority: this run's manifest hash is 2e2a4874d9ec5bcdd8d963ac75095f0a49fb1e4cbf956b2dcb837d9ae845b7bb, timestamped October 3, 2026.
  • The compliance state at capture is recorded with the evidence: robots.txt hash and verdict, AI-preference signals, crawler identity and the usage rights below.
  • Download any run as an evidence bundle (WACZ) and check it offline, without trusting SourceFinch: sourcefinch verify-bundle run.wacz.

FederalRegister.gov publishes a public REST API for Federal Register documents; no API key or registration is required. Federal Register documents are works of the U.S. government (17 U.S.C. 105). The web edition is not the official legal edition; the official edition is the PDF on govinfo.gov. The HTML website challenges unidentified automated clients, so SourceFinch uses only the documented API, which answered SourceFinch's declared crawler at review.

Usage rights travel with every record SourceFinch delivers (API, exports, webhooks and evidence bundles). They are our documented understanding of the publisher's stated terms, not legal advice.

Use it

Every surface creates the same monitor from this Verified recipe. Monitors keep record history, report field-level changes and deliver by webhook, export or email. You confirm you have the right to collect the source (rights: true).

Console

Open this recipe in the console: it loads the URL, fields and key, samples the source live, and saves a monitor on the daily schedule.

source.json

The request body used by the API, CLI and SDK examples.

Remote MCP server with OAuth; see /docs/mcp.

claude mcp add --transport http sourcefinch https://sourcefinch.com/mcp

# then ask your agent:
"Use SourceFinch to monitor Federal Register rules and proposed rules: get_catalog_source federal-register-rules,
then create_source with its create_source_args (dry run first), then run_source."

Pricing

Each check is one run, whatever the number of records, and failed runs are free. On its default daily schedule this source uses about 30 runs a month, which fits the Free plan's 300 runs. It uses HTTP acquisition, so no browser runs are needed. See plans.

SourceFinch is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Office of the Federal Register (National Archives). This page describes federal register rules and proposed rules as SourceFinch acquires it.
