What the data contains

Filings submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's EDGAR system that include financial statements tagged with the US GAAP or IFRS XBRL taxonomies: annual and quarterly reports, foreign private issuer reports, current reports with financial exhibits and amendments. Data comes from the SEC's public XBRL RSS feed under the EDGAR archives, which the SEC refreshes about every 10 minutes with the latest 200 such filings. Each run reads the newest 100 of them. Each record is one filing keyed by its accession number, with the filer's name and CIK, form type, filing date, reporting period, fiscal year end, SIC code, file number and the link to the filing index. A monitor reports each new filing as it appears. Filers in this feed are companies and funds. The SEC's fair-access policy asks automated clients to declare who they are and to stay under 10 requests a second; SourceFinch's crawler declares its identity and a contact address and reads the feed in a single request per run.

Every record has these fields. The key field accession_number identifies a record across runs, so changes are reported field by field.

Evidence behind every value

  • Each run keeps the publisher's exact response, hashed with SHA-256. This sample came from a response with hash 0bed934bbfd882ccf6f15429339828215287a20a6d799fc5b0653e85fcfb2518.
  • Every value records where it came from in that response: a CSS path into the retained capture.
  • Each run gets a signed manifest (Ed25519) timestamped by an RFC 3161 authority: this run's manifest hash is d4dbe3aa5de40778b23d95fca1f61264f38df83bd1e651007c1dcd263a71ca4d, timestamped October 3, 2026.
  • The compliance state at capture is recorded with the evidence: robots.txt hash and verdict, AI-preference signals, crawler identity and the usage rights below.
  • Download any run as an evidence bundle (WACZ) and check it offline, without trusting SourceFinch: sourcefinch verify-bundle run.wacz.

EDGAR data can be accessed and downloaded for free. Under the SEC's fair-access policy, automated clients must declare a user agent with contact details, download only what they need and stay under 10 requests per second; tools outside that policy are rate limited. The XBRL RSS feeds are published for programmatic use and robots.txt allows them. SourceFinch reads this feed with its declared crawler identity, one request per run.

Usage rights travel with every record SourceFinch delivers (API, exports, webhooks and evidence bundles). They are our documented understanding of the publisher's stated terms, not legal advice.

Use it

Every surface creates the same monitor from this Verified recipe. Monitors keep record history, report field-level changes and deliver by webhook, export or email. You confirm you have the right to collect the source (rights: true).

Console

Open this recipe in the console: it loads the URL, fields and key, samples the source live, and saves a monitor on the daily schedule.
