What the data contains
Reads the complete USGS significant_month.geojson rolling summary feed for the past month. Each feature becomes a record keyed by the publisher preferred event identifier. Magnitudes, locations, review status and timestamps can change as USGS revises its estimates. An event leaving this rolling window does not prove deletion, resolution or that the hazard has ended. Preferred identifiers can also change when events are merged; this recipe does not resolve aliases across identifiers. This recipe retains all feed event types. It does not infer impacts on infrastructure, resolve event aliases, or issue safety advice. Empty feeds are a possible publisher state; inspect source health before interpreting an empty result. SourceFinch is independent of USGS.
Fields and types
Every record has these fields. The key field id identifies a record across runs, so changes are reported field by field.
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
idkey | string | USGS preferred event identifier. Merged events may receive a different preferred identifier. |
title | string, nullable | Publisher title describing magnitude and location. |
magnitude | number, nullable | Publisher magnitude estimate; nullable and subject to revision. |
place | string, nullable | Publisher description of the event location. |
event_time_ms | integer | Event origin time as milliseconds since the Unix epoch in UTC. |
updated_time_ms | integer | Publisher revision timestamp as milliseconds since the Unix epoch in UTC. |
status | string, nullable | Publisher review status, such as automatic or reviewed. |
event_type | string, nullable | Publisher event type; the feed may include non-earthquake seismic events. |
longitude | number, nullable | Longitude in degrees from the publisher point geometry; nullable. |
latitude | number, nullable | Latitude in degrees from the publisher point geometry; nullable. |
depth_km | number, nullable | Publisher depth estimate in kilometres; nullable and subject to revision. |
url | url | USGS detail page for the event. |

]Evidence behind every value
- Each run keeps the publisher's exact response, hashed with SHA-256. This sample came from a response with hash
8b295e621638b22853700045a9d5f2592018260ca79416ad707327094f074150. - Every value records where it came from in that response: a JSON Pointer into the retained capture.
- Each run gets a signed manifest (Ed25519) timestamped by an RFC 3161 authority: this run's manifest hash is
2d74e63c664cfc37f78519d8bd0e58269f33f763f0e0f1ecec8cb657a88c3b0e, timestamped October 6, 2026. - The compliance state at capture is recorded with the evidence: robots.txt hash and verdict, AI-preference signals, crawler identity and the usage rights below.
- Download any run as an evidence bundle (WACZ) and check it offline, without trusting SourceFinch:
sourcefinch verify-bundle run.wacz.

Measured on completed runs of this recipe version across SourceFinch, anonymized, within a rolling 30-day window. First successful observation: October 6, 2026. A new recipe has only the history collected since that date; this is not a 30-day uptime guarantee.
Use it
Every surface creates the same monitor from this Verified recipe. Monitors keep record history, report field-level changes and deliver by webhook, export or email. You confirm you have the right to collect the source (rights: true).
Console
Open this recipe in the console: it preserves the reviewed URL, fields and record key. Review the latest captured sample, confirm source rights, and choose a schedule before creating your monitor.

then create_source with its create_source_args (dry run first), then run_source."Pricing
Each check is one run, whatever the number of records, and failed runs are free. On its default hourly schedule this source uses about 720 runs a month. It uses HTTP acquisition, so no browser runs are needed. See plans.
