What the data contains
Since November 2024, U.S. hospitals report respiratory illness data weekly to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). CDC publishes the Weekly Hospital Respiratory Data (HRD) metrics by jurisdiction on data.cdc.gov, usually on Friday for the week ending the previous Saturday, and revises recent weeks as late reports arrive. This source reads the national rows (jurisdiction USA) of that dataset for the last 52 weeks on each daily run and makes one record per week keyed by the week ending date: new admissions and hospitalized patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19, influenza and RSV, inpatient and ICU bed occupancy, the share of inpatient beds used by each virus and the number of hospitals reporting. Counts are aggregates with no person-level data. A monitor reports each new week and each revision. SourceFinch is independent of CDC.
Fields and types
Every record has these fields. The key field week identifies a record across runs, so changes are reported field by field.

]Evidence behind every value
- Each run keeps the publisher's exact response, hashed with SHA-256. This sample came from a response with hash
6295f3000636ea25347bd80784ec06c24c37a6e56468d2cbe907e448c5ac61fe. - Every value records where it came from in that response: a JSON Pointer into the retained capture.
- Each run gets a signed manifest (Ed25519) timestamped by an RFC 3161 authority: this run's manifest hash is
7926702708b90ad68f6103b576eab85558c52895e8133ea9d3a71f1a3f1281ef, timestamped October 13, 2026. - The compliance state at capture is recorded with the evidence: robots.txt hash and verdict, AI-preference signals, crawler identity and the usage rights below.
- Download any run as an evidence bundle (WACZ) and check it offline, without trusting SourceFinch:
sourcefinch verify-bundle run.wacz.

CDC's use of agency materials page states that most information on CDC websites is in the public domain and may be freely used or reproduced without permission, provided users attribute it to CDC, carry a disclaimer that their use does not imply endorsement by CDC, HHS or the U.S. Government, do not change the substantive content and state that the material is otherwise available on the agency website at no charge. The dataset's metadata on data.cdc.gov states the licence Public Domain U.S. Government. data.cdc.gov's robots.txt (Socrata) allows the /resource/ API path with a one-second crawl delay; the SODA API is keyless for light use and this source makes one request per daily run. Records are national aggregates with no person-level data.
