What the data contains
legislation.gov.uk is the UK's statute book, run by The National Archives. Its new legislation feed lists Acts of the UK Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, Senedd Cymru and the Northern Ireland Assembly, and statutory instruments and rules made under them, newest first, as soon as they are published (several to a few dozen items on a working day). This source reads the 100 most recently published items on each daily run and makes one record per item, keyed by its legislation.gov.uk identifier, with the title, link, document type, year, number and the publication and last-update times. A monitor reports each new piece of legislation and each update to a feed entry. Correction slips appear as their own items, identified by the slip's PDF address and carrying the type, year and number of the legislation they correct. Legislation texts are not fetched. Titles name the subject of the legislation (places, bodies, schemes), not private individuals. An item leaving the 100-item window is not a repeal. SourceFinch is independent of The National Archives.
Fields and types
Every record has these fields. The key field id identifies a record across runs, so changes are reported field by field.
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
idkey | string | legislation.gov.uk identifier URI of the item (for example http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/uksi/2026/1075); a correction slip uses its PDF address. The record key. |
title | string | Title of the Act, instrument or correction slip as published; Welsh legislation carries the English and Welsh titles separated by a slash. |
url | url, nullable | Link to the item on legislation.gov.uk as originally made or enacted; the text itself is not fetched. |
document_type | string, nullable | legislation.gov.uk document type, for example UnitedKingdomStatutoryInstrument, ScottishStatutoryInstrument or UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct; a correction slip carries the type of the legislation it corrects. Null if the feed omits it. |
year | integer, nullable | Calendar year in the item's citation. |
number | integer, nullable | Number of the item within its type and year (the SI number or Act chapter number). |
published_at | datetime, nullable | Time legislation.gov.uk first published the item, with its UTC offset. |
updated_at | datetime | Time legislation.gov.uk last updated the feed entry, with its UTC offset. |

]Evidence behind every value
- Each run keeps the publisher's exact response, hashed with SHA-256. This sample came from a response with hash
59604ae228dc96311ee950265ad0de2b397935291f797429f71bdde4ef7497b7. - Every value records where it came from in that response: a CSS path into the retained capture.
- Each run gets a signed manifest (Ed25519) timestamped by an RFC 3161 authority: this run's manifest hash is
9ef3ab052d7b207c7246eceac420ea5dea834b480376860530424d9662bcc9f2, timestamped October 13, 2026. - The compliance state at capture is recorded with the evidence: robots.txt hash and verdict, AI-preference signals, crawler identity and the usage rights below.
- Download any run as an evidence bundle (WACZ) and check it offline, without trusting SourceFinch:
sourcefinch verify-bundle run.wacz.

legislation.gov.uk, run by The National Archives, states that all content is available under the Open Government Licence v3.0 except where otherwise stated, which permits copying, publishing, adapting and commercial use with attribution. Its fair use policy welcomes commercial data re-users and crawlers that identify themselves with a user agent carrying contact details, follow robots.txt (crawl delay 5 seconds) and stay under 1,500 requests in any 5-minute period; it suggests bulk channels for large crawls. This source makes one feed request per daily run with SourceFinch's declared user agent. robots.txt allows the feed path (it disallows only PDF and DOCX renditions and /defralex).
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source: legislation.gov.uk (The National Archives). SourceFinch is independent of the publisher.
Usage rights travel with every record SourceFinch delivers (API, exports, webhooks and evidence bundles). They are our documented understanding of the publisher's stated terms, not legal advice.

Every surface creates the same monitor from this Verified recipe. Monitors keep record history, report field-level changes and deliver by webhook, export or email. You confirm you have the right to collect the source (rights: true).
Console
Open this recipe in the console: it preserves the reviewed URL, fields and record key. Review the latest captured sample, confirm source rights, and choose a schedule before creating your monitor.
